Q: What is the best oxygen system to use?

A: We evaluate the patient’s needs to determine and utilize the best method of oxygen delivery regardless of cost. Click here to see a listing of oxygen delivery systems.

 

Q: Will Medicare pay for bath safety equipment?

A: No. A bedside commode is the exception.

 

Q: Will Medicare pay for a lift chair?

A: If it is considered medically necessary. A lift chair would be considered medically necessary if all of the following coverage criteria are met:

  • The patient must have severe arthritis of the hip or knee, or have a severe neuromuscular disease.
  • The seat lift mechanism must be a part of the physician’s course of treatment and be prescribed to effect improvement, or arrest or retard deterioration in the patient’s condition.
  • The patient must be completely incapable of standing up from a regular armchair or any chair in their home.
  • Once standing, the patient must have the ability to walk.
  • Unsuccessful treatment of physical therapy or medication.

 

Q: Will Medicare pay for a scooter (power operated vehicle or POV?)

A: A power operated vehicle is covered when all of the following are met:

  • The patient’s condition is such that without the use of a wheelchair the patient would not be able to move around their residence.
  • The patient is unable to operate a manual wheelchair.
  • The patient is capable of safely operating the controls for the power operated vehicle.
  • The patient can transfer safely in and out of the power operated vehicle and has adequate trunk stability to be able to safely ride in the POV.
  • The POV is ordered by a physician.

 

Q: Will insurance pay for diabetic shoes?

A: Most insurance will pay for diabetic shoes when the shoes are ordered by a physician and the patient has lower extremity complications due to diabetes.
